No Rest for the Tired

Although resilient, the human spirit falls short of invincible. Whether through drips or downpour life can erode us till we are too weak to stand. “No Rest for the Tired” expresses many of the feelings that accompany the experience of being overwhelmed and downtrodden.

Visually, the work draws inspirations from Park Harrison’s “The Architects Brother.” A man interacting with an artificial nature environment presents a fantastical stage that leads the viewer to appreciate the aesthetics of the imagery while still pushing beyond. By detaching the imagery from reality the viewer can easier engage with the abstract concepts presented.

This work exists as a companion piece to Facing The Disconnect. Both of these works would fall under traditional self portraits, but in my mind they do not depict myself. Instead they show a character I play that represents my own experience. The use of a consistent outfit throughout both of these series provides unity for each body of work while also depicting the figure as a character instead of as my own person.
